Chapter 19 Demi's muscles were tired but she forced herself to keep going. She knew at any second her heart would burst from pounding so hard against her chest. She couldn't catch her breath and she was wheezing, her throat was dry and burning, and she was dizzy. But Joe's strength was pulling her along. "Joe..." Wheeze. "They're..." Pant. "Not..." Wheeze. "There." Pant-Wheeze. Joe shook his head, not answering as he continued to pull her. "Joe..." She wheezed again. "Please...stop." She pleaded, her voice sounded as if tears would pour soon. Her throat was so sore as were her lungs and muscles that she thought she would cry. It was utterly painful. He slowed down, only to pick her up and throw her over his shoulder. "Joe..." She panted. "No...Too...heavy..." She wheezed, collapsing on his shoulder. She seemed to have no effect on Joe. She was like a feather. He was panting, and his legs were sore but he could continue. At least he found Demi's weak spot. Running. "We're alm! ost there, baby." He informed her. Finally, he made it. He hid behind the tall boulder and set her down. Demi trembled exhaustedly, her knees were about to give out. She had no energy from the lack of food, but her energy was slowly boosting back up as her heart rate slowed. "Joe..." She wheezed again. "We...We...can't do it." She panted. Joe leaned against the boulder, feeling the cold sensation of the boulder against his skin. He looked back at Demi. "Yes, we can and we will."
