Chapter 19 Demi's muscles were tired but she forced herself to keep going. She knew at any second her heart would burst from pounding so hard against her chest. She couldn't catch her breath and she was wheezing, her throat was dry and burning, and she was dizzy. But Joe's strength was pulling her along. "Joe..." Wheeze. "They're..." Pant. "Not..." Wheeze. "There." Pant-Wheeze. Joe shook his head, not answering as he continued to pull her. "Joe..." She wheezed again. "Please...stop." She pleaded, her voice sounded as if tears would pour soon. Her throat was so sore as were her lungs and muscles that she thought she would cry. It was utterly painful. He slowed down, only to pick her up and throw her over his shoulder. "Joe..." She panted.
