Leadership Academy at Judson High School

All secondary Judson ISD assistant principals and curriculum specialists are getting the chance to attend a leadership academy at Judson High School. Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Willis Mackey, wanted to offer a hands-on opportunity to these staff members, to see first-hand how to be effective instructional leaders, while also balancing the management aspect of the job. As part of this leadership academy, Dr. Mackey will be the "acting" principal of Judson High School for a three-week period. Dr. Mackey and the others, made surprise visits to classrooms to observe teachers, talk to students and see where improvements can be made. Afterward, the administrators held roundtable discussions about what they saw that was or was not effective. The idea is that leaders from each campus will take back what they've learned through this collaborative effort. "Every administrator has their own leadership style. Everyone is different and does what works for them. But, I want to help ou! r administrators be as successful as they possibly can be, and I'm going to help them focus on instructional leadership through modeling," said Dr. Mackey.
